Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405 docks: technical fits without false certification

ASUS documents two Thunderbolt 4 display/charging ports and a 65 W USB-C adapter, but not an exact UX3405 dock compatibility list for the shortlisted products.

Which dock options should you consider?

For ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405, consider ASUS DC500 when its native Thunderbolt layout and conditional three-display routing fit the desk, CalDigit TS4 for a conventional Thunderbolt dock, or Plugable TBT4-UD5 for a simpler two-screen layout. These are technical fits from official host and dock specifications—not ASUS certification of each exact pairing. The UX3405 has two Thunderbolt 4 ports with display output and Power Delivery and is documented with a 65 W USB-C adapter. Each listed dock can exceed that nominal charging requirement, but negotiation still must be verified. Do not turn the number of video sockets into a display promise: DC500's three-4K claim requires the stated host input and DSC conditions, while TS4 and TBT4-UD5 have their own output routes.

ASUS DC500 Thunderbolt 4 Dock

It is the same manufacturer's Thunderbolt 4 dock, offers two HDMI paths plus downstream Thunderbolt video and up to 96 W host power.

Check first: ASUS does not publish an exact UX3405 pairing here. Triple 4K60 is conditional on a suitable host input and DSC; start with one display and verify the actual graphics path.

CalDigit TS4

Its Thunderbolt host requirement matches the UX3405's documented ports and it can provide up to 98 W host power.

Check first: This is specification matching, not exact-model certification. DisplayPort is one video path and the downstream Thunderbolt port is the other; ordinary USB-C data ports are not interchangeable video outputs.

Plugable TBT4-UD5

Its Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 host path and up to 96 W certified host delivery suit a 65 W-class Windows laptop on paper.

Check first: Use the supplied host cable and follow its exact HDMI/downstream-Thunderbolt output arrangement. Two-screen claims still depend on the UX3405 graphics path, monitors, cables and modes.

Connect displays and power

Computer cable
Power the chosen dock with its matching supply, then connect its supplied Thunderbolt host cable directly to either UX3405 Thunderbolt 4 port.
Displays
Follow the exact dock's output map. Prove one monitor at 1920×1080 60 Hz before adding another; do not use a data-only USB-C socket as a video path.
Direct comparison
Use the notebook's HDMI 2.1 TMDS port or a direct Thunderbolt-to-display cable to separate monitor/cable problems from the dock.
Power
The reviewed UX3405 specification lists a 65 W USB-C adapter, subject to region and configuration. Verify Windows charging rather than relying on a dock's advertised maximum.

First recovery steps by symptom

Nothing on the dock works

  1. Confirm the complete dock model, matching supply and specified host cable.
  2. Power the dock first, then reconnect it directly to the other Thunderbolt 4 port with no extension.
  3. Prove one USB accessory before reconnecting displays or storage.

USB works but a display is blank

  1. Reduce the setup to one monitor, select its exact input and begin at 1920×1080 60 Hz.
  2. Use a video output documented for that exact dock and a known-good cable, then compare the laptop's direct HDMI output.
  3. If direct video works, update the UX3405 BIOS and graphics/Thunderbolt components plus the exact dock firmware before restoring more screens.

Charging is slow or absent

  1. Check Windows charging state and confirm the dock supply and host cable belong to the exact model.
  2. Reseat the direct Thunderbolt connection and remove high-draw accessories during the test.
  3. Compare with the ASUS 65 W USB-C adapter; restored charging isolates the dock power path but does not prove the rest of the pairing.

Still unknown: ASUS does not establish an exact UX3405 pairing for these three docks in the reviewed sources. The installed processor/graphics option, DSC availability, simultaneous monitor modes, regional adapter, cable capability, EDID, HDR, mixed refresh, firmware and sleep/wake behavior remain unknown. No physical UX3405 or dock was tested.
