A concrete desk: ports and cables

Two software-driven external screens: one DisplayPort and one HDMI, up to the dock’s documented dual 4K60 ceiling. DisplayLink installation and Mac permission are required. This does not establish gaming or protected-video performance.

If this exact arrangement fails

USB devices work but both screens are dark
Confirm DisplayLink Manager is running and has permission; USB data success does not establish a software video session.
One group works but the other does not
Test one known-good screen/cable on each group, then reconnect the mixed-input arrangement.
Charging is slower than expected
Compare your Mac’s load with actual delivered power. The dock’s power supply label is not a measurement of laptop charging.
  1. Connect only screen 1 and record its working input and mode.
  2. Add the next screen on the labelled route. Confirm separate windows on each screen.
  3. Check every selected mode, a sleep/wake cycle and a reconnect. Record any failure before changing another component.

Connect it in this order

  1. Power the dock using the specified adapter. Connect the laptop to the side USB-C host port with the intended host cable.
  2. The front USB-C port is for accessories; move the computer cable if you used it by mistake.
  3. Complete the supported DisplayLink installation. On a Mac, grant the required Screen Recording permission; on a managed computer, use your IT-approved process.
  4. Attach one HDMI or DisplayPort screen, choosing one output from the first display group. Select its actual input.
  5. Add the second screen using the other group. Choose extended desktops, then set supported modes and check charging.

Two failures that need different fixes

If USB accessories work but both screens stay dark, investigate DisplayLink installation, whether it is running and its permissions. If the displays work but charging does not, inspect the host connection and laptop charging requirement. Reinstalling display software cannot make a non-charging host port accept power.

Test one requirement at a time. Note which screen, input and cable you used so that a successful test remains useful when you add the second monitor.

Check the applications before buying

Plugable excludes HDCP playback on macOS while this DisplayLink dock is connected; the effect can include directly connected and built-in displays. Plugable UD-6950PDH: DisplayLink outputs and host charging

A working office desktop is not evidence that a game, editing workflow or protected streaming service will behave as required. Use the protected-video guide and verify your own critical applications before relying on the arrangement.

When the upgrade is worthwhile

The PDH model can reduce laptop cable handling if your current non-charging dock already meets the display requirement. Compare that convenience with the cost of replacing a working unit. If your priority is avoiding display software, start with a suitable native-video option and recheck the computer’s native screen limit.
