Start with the physical dock
Before you unplug anything, save your work and eject storage connected through the dock. Then inspect the underside and note the complete model label. Keep the suffix: “WD19” is not a useful shorthand when selecting a two-monitor connection guide. Do not post your service tag or serial number publicly.
Check the cable module as well as the base. Dell documents interchangeable modules across this family, including conversion to WD22TB4. An upgraded dock may therefore need more than the old base label to identify its current configuration. Dell: WD19-family cable modules and upgrades
The distinctions that matter

Dell lists the S variants and WD22TB4 without 3.5 mm audio jacks. Audio sockets can help identify a unit, but they are not enough to prove its present cable-module configuration. Dell: cross-brand dock compatibility
Write a usable equipment record
- Record the dock model, attached module and power-brick wattage as separate entries. A seller’s product title may combine several variants.
- Record your laptop model and processor, operating-system version, and each monitor model. “MacBook” and “two 4K monitors” omit details that can change the answer.
- Label the ports used by your current cables. Distinguish the cable going to the laptop from cables going to displays.
- Choose the guide for that exact combination. If the label and ports disagree, resolve the identity with the manual or your IT team before buying parts.
Before buying a replacement
Ask a used-equipment seller for clear pictures of the underside, cable module, connector ends and power adapter. Compare the actual items with the listing. A bargain dock without the required module or adapter may create another purchase rather than solve the original problem.
You do not need to disassemble the dock simply to follow these guides. If a hardware upgrade is appropriate, use Dell’s instructions and a verified compatible kit; a cable that merely has the same connector shape is not a module upgrade.
Read a used listing as a bundle

Ask for the actual item details before paying. Save the listing and privately record what arrives; then compare the label, module and power adapter before applying a firmware package. A mismatched listing is an equipment-identification problem, not something a driver can reliably resolve. For the purchase tradeoff, use WD22TB4 versus WD19S.
