These are condensed rows for Dell’s listed output combinations, subject to the manual’s conditions. HDMI and the rear multifunction USB-C display output cannot be used simultaneously as two displays. Dell: WD19S display-resolution table
HBR2 and HBR3 describe DisplayPort link rates. DSC means Display Stream Compression. Do not decide the row solely from the socket’s advertised DisplayPort version; confirm the host and graphics configuration.
A diagnostic sequence that preserves evidence
- Record the exact dock and laptop models, graphics configuration, both monitor modes and the ports in use.
- Disconnect the second display. Check whether the first can now offer 60 Hz at the intended resolution.
- Repeat with the other monitor alone, using a supported cable and output.
- Test a direct laptop connection, if supported, at the same target mode. If it succeeds, the monitor itself is capable and the dock path deserves attention.
- Return to the matching dock table. Compare the combined mode with the correct link and compression conditions before ordering hardware.
Read the result, not just the refresh-rate menu
If both screens can run at the desired mode alone but not together, investigate the shared path and combined configuration. If neither can reach the mode through the dock, first establish the relevant host condition. A setting missing from the menu is a clue, not proof that a hidden override will work.
Keep the OS scaling setting separate from the video signal. A “looks like” desktop size is not necessarily the physical resolution sent to the monitor. Record the actual output resolution and refresh rate wherever the operating system or monitor reports them.
Your lowest-cost alternatives
If the verified dock path cannot carry the combination, compare three choices: reduce a mode, connect one monitor directly to the laptop, or use a dock proven for the requirement. The direct connection costs convenience but may preserve existing equipment.
Do not order a Thunderbolt dock until you have checked the laptop’s matching host capability and the new dock’s exact display table. A faster product label does not answer every compatibility question. On a Mac, also read the output-routing guide before treating this as only a bandwidth problem.
A useful evidence table for the next support request

Keep the monitor input and cable constant where possible. A mode disappearing only when the second screen is added points to the combined arrangement; it does not prove a particular adapter is defective. Use the adapter checklist once you have identified a connector or conversion requirement.
