The host plug comes first
Surface Dock 2 connects through the proprietary Surface Connect port. It is not a USB-C host dock for an ASUS laptop, MacBook or iPad. Use the display outputs

Verify one feature at a time
Identify the exact Surface processor variant, then confirm its applicable display table. Test one screen before two, and distinguish picture, charging and peripherals. The checker blocks a Surface Connect dock on a known non-Surface host and keeps incomplete mode pairings unconfirmed.
