Build the connection from both ends

Microsoft’s display guide makes the model, adapter and cable part of the compatibility question. Record the Surface variant, dock model, each output, and each monitor input/mode. Microsoft: connect Surface to a display

If you own a direct connection, establish it before adding the dock. A dock socket count is not a tested combined resolution budget. Leave an unverified two-screen arrangement open until the applicable host and dock tables agree.

Isolate a dark or duplicated screen

  1. Power the screen and select the input connected to the Surface.
  2. Test one screen with a known working video cable or adapter.
  3. Use Windows display settings to choose Duplicate or Extend according to your goal.
  4. If the direct route works, add the dock without changing the monitor input or requested mode.
  5. Compare each output alone before trying the combined setup. Keep the successful and failing conditions in one record.

Keep charging and software as separate checks

For SQ3, verify that any required display software supports the actual ARM-based Windows environment. The presence of an installer for another Windows computer does not establish that fact.
