Check the full tablet name first
Samsung’s wired list covers the reviewed standard S4, S5e, S6, S7, S8, S9 and S10 families, plus Tab Active Pro and Active3. S9 FE/FE+ and S10 FE/FE+ are explicitly excluded from HDMI output. Keep “FE” in the model name when searching. Samsung: DeX devices and wired connections
Connect one supported tablet to HDMI
- Use a compatible USB-C video-to-HDMI adapter/cable. If the adapter has a separate HDMI socket, add an HDMI cable.
- Connect the display and select the same HDMI input number on the monitor or TV.
- Unlock the tablet and use the applicable DeX prompt or Quick settings control. Menu behavior depends on the installed software.
- Open an ordinary app and confirm the intended external workspace. A mirrored picture alone is not the same result.
- Save work before unplugging the video cable because disconnecting it restarts the DeX session.
Plan charging before buying an adapter
A simple video cable occupies the tablet’s USB-C port. It does not create another socket for a charger. If you need simultaneous charging, check that the exact adapter provides a power-input port and supports the intended tablet arrangement. Adapter supply requirements, tablet charging rate and peripheral behavior remain separate checks. A dock advertised for Windows laptops does not establish them.
If there is no external workspace
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| No signal on the monitor | Correct HDMI input, cable seating and a known-working display input |
| Only the tablet picture is mirrored | The applicable DeX mode and tablet software instructions |
| An FE model never produces HDMI video | Its explicit source exclusion; another ordinary passive adapter will not remove it |
| Video works but charging or USB accessories fail | Exact adapter power/peripheral support, separately from video |

What remains unreviewed
The list establishes a wired connection route, not a universal resolution, refresh rate or a multi-monitor desktop. Our checker leaves those picture modes unresolved. Exact third-party dock, charging and peripheral combinations are the remaining Samsung depth gap.
