Start with the iPad specification

The 11-inch M4 model has a Thunderbolt/USB4 connection and a documented native external-display ceiling of 6K at 60 Hz for one screen. Its M4 chip name does not give it the MacBook Air M4’s two-external-display arrangement. Apple: iPad Pro 11-inch M4 specifications

Write the model, installed iPadOS version and monitor input before selecting a dock. An identical USB-C connector is not proof of identical operating-system features.

Mirroring and a separate workspace are different

Apple lists this iPad among the models that can move windows to an external display using the supported iPadOS windowing features. Merely seeing a copy of the tablet screen is not the same test. Apple: iPad external-window support

Establish a direct working connection

  1. Choose a video-capable USB-C connection or a supported adapter matching the monitor’s input.
  2. Power the monitor and select that input. Unlock the iPad and confirm the installed iPadOS version.
  3. First confirm a picture, then check the supported external-window behavior with an app.
  4. Add keyboard or pointing-device requirements to the setup record.
  5. Check how the iPad receives power while its USB-C port is occupied; do not assume a separate charger can occupy that same port simultaneously.

Before putting a laptop dock in the path

Ask the dock supplier about this exact iPad model, iPadOS version, output and power arrangement. A Windows or macOS compatibility claim leaves those questions open. Our checker therefore keeps third-party iPad dock pairings unconfirmed until it has a specific rule.

A successful direct test gives you a useful baseline. Keep the monitor and working cable fixed when comparing the dock, and record which feature changes: picture, separate workspace, charging or peripherals. Do not buy a second monitor on the assumption that additional dock sockets increase the iPad’s native display count.
