Find G8 or G9 before choosing

Read the laptop label or Windows system information. “EliteBook 840” alone is incomplete. The two reviewed sources are different documents from different periods; a missing later dock in the older document is not an incompatibility finding.

Both reviewed computers identify Thunderbolt 4 video ports. That helps assess a connection, but does not validate every monitor combination or HP management function.

If you already own a G5

  1. Keep the laptop charger available for the first test. Power the G5 and use its computer cable.
  2. Connect one screen on HDMI or DisplayPort and select that input on the screen.
  3. Add the next screen at an ordinary office mode. Record the modes offered with both attached.
  4. Check charging and sleep/wake with your real workload before deciding that a replacement is necessary.

A successful one-screen test does not prove a requested triple-screen arrangement. Read the G5 versus G4 comparison before spending.

For a work laptop

Ask IT about firmware, display-software installation and any required wake or network-management features. Choose the dock for the complete requirement.
