Avoid an unnecessary adapter purchase

List each monitor’s existing HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C input. Compare the whole cable arrangement: a dock with native HDMI sockets may use fewer adapters for HDMI screens, while other models route a screen through Thunderbolt. Check power separately from video

  1. Use the intended dock supply and computer cable.
  2. Check one screen first, then the combined screen modes.
  3. Run your ordinary workload and inspect the laptop’s charging status.
  4. If charging is marginal, compare the actual delivered power with the laptop’s requirement before replacing the dock.

A charger rating is not a promise that every dock supplies the same power. Follow the charging checks if video works but charging does not.
