Start with your connection and power requirements
Start with the exact G5 model
The reviewed G5 has two DisplayPort outputs and HDMI 2.0. Match a monitor input to the appropriate dock output with a cable rated for your intended mode. The number of sockets alone does not prove all screens can run together at that mode.
Verify one screen before adding the rest
Power the dock and use its computer connection. Connect one monitor, select that input and verify the picture. Add other screens individually, checking each active resolution and refresh rate. The detailed G5 guidance below explains its bandwidth conditions.
Check power separately
Keep the laptop’s supported charger available. A visible desktop and working USB accessories do not prove that dock power meets the computer’s needs during a demanding workload. Exact host charging input and combined monitor modes are not established by the historical compatibility list.
When the result is incomplete
For a blank screen, isolate one output, cable and monitor input first. For low-power warnings or battery drain, compare with the supported laptop charger. Current operating-system, firmware and driver support still need their own checks.

HP G5: ports, power and screen checks
| Check | For this setup |
|---|
| Computer cable | The attached G5 USB-C cable goes to the laptop’s video-capable USB-C port. |
|---|
| Screen cables | Use rear HDMI or DisplayPort. The front USB-C socket is for data and 15 W accessory power, not a monitor. |
|---|
| Two Full HD screens | Listed in every G5 bandwidth column, assuming the host supports the display count. Confirm the exact laptop configuration and OS. |
|---|
| Two 4K60 screens | Require DP 1.3/1.4 in high-resolution mode, or DP 1.4 with DSC in the default mode. A USB-C socket alone establishes neither. |
|---|
| Three 4K60 screens | Only listed with DP 1.4 DSC in high-resolution mode; all three rear video outputs are used. |
|---|
| Power | Up to 100 W to supported HP hosts. A workstation requiring more needs separate supported power. |
