Match the iPad model

Apple specifies one external screen up to 6K60 for each listed model. The Air models have USB-C DisplayPort video; the Pro M4 uses Thunderbolt/USB4. Picture and workspace are separate checks

Use one direct video path

A compatible USB-C video connection or HDMI adapter must match the screen and mode. A charge-only cable is insufficient. Apple’s USB-C guide explains the supported connections. Apple: USB-C connections on iPad

For HDMI, verify the actual app workspace resolution: Apple’s AV adapter notes distinguish desktop output from higher-resolution video playback. The checker keeps higher-resolution HDMI workspace requests unconfirmed. It does not certify arbitrary desktop docks on iPadOS.

Leave room for power

The iPad’s one USB-C socket cannot hold a separate charger and video cable at once. Use a supported monitor or adapter with verified power delivery, or test on battery first. Check charging separately before relying on a full working day.
