Which dock options should you consider?
For machine type 21X0 or 21X1, Lenovo lists USB4 Dock 5000, Thunderbolt 4 Workstation Dock, Universal Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock, Universal Thunderbolt 4 Dock and USB-C Dock 135W. Start with USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 when buying for this generation; keep the USB-C Dock 135W on the list when reusing supported equipment. The matrix establishes the model pairing, not every display combination.
USB4 Dock 5000 or Thunderbolt 4 Workstation Dock
Both are exact 21X0/21X1 entries in Lenovo's September 2026 Options Compatibility Matrix and match the laptop's USB4/Thunderbolt-class host ports.
Check first: Check the exact dock type, its supplied power adapter and delivered host power against the laptop's original 65 W or 100 W adapter.
Universal Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock or Universal Thunderbolt 4 Dock
Lenovo also lists these universal Thunderbolt 4 families for the same two machine types.
Check first: The listing does not prove your requested number of screens, resolutions, refresh rates or enterprise features; verify those against the exact dock revision.
USB-C Dock 135W (40AY0135US)
Lenovo's matrix includes this USB-C dock for 21X0/21X1, so it remains a documented reuse option.
Check first: The 135 W figure names the dock package/supply, not automatically the watts delivered to the laptop. Keep host charging and display modes as separate checks.
Connect displays and power
- Computer cable
- Connect the dock's specified USB-C/Thunderbolt host cable directly to either laptop Thunderbolt 4 port; Lenovo documents USB PD 3.0 and DisplayPort 2.1 capability on both.
- Display cables
- Connect monitors to the dock outputs supported by the exact dock revision. For a quick isolation test, the laptop's HDMI 2.1 port supports up to 4K60 in Lenovo's specification.
- Power
- P14s Gen 7 AMD configurations are listed with 65 W or 100 W USB-C adapters. Identify the original adapter and compare the dock's delivered host power before expecting it to replace that charger.
- Enterprise functions
- Lenovo's compatibility row notes PXE/network boot, wake-on-LAN and MAC-address pass-through support. Those features may still depend on firmware, BIOS and managed-network policy.
First recovery steps by symptom
Nothing on the dock works
- Confirm the laptop machine type begins 21X0 or 21X1 and identify the dock's full type code.
- Verify the dock's specified AC adapter, then reconnect its host cable directly to one laptop Thunderbolt 4 port.
- Move the same host cable to the other Thunderbolt 4 port; if both fail, test a simple USB device before changing display settings.
USB works, but a display does not
- Reduce to one monitor and use one direct dock video cable without conversion adapters.
- Test the monitor from the laptop's HDMI 2.1 port to separate the monitor/cable from the dock route.
- If direct HDMI works, check the exact dock's firmware and Lenovo driver package, then reconnect one dock display before adding more.
Charging is slow or absent
- Read the laptop's original USB-C adapter rating: Lenovo lists 65 W and 100 W configurations.
- Check the dock's delivered host power and the cable supplied for that dock; do not use the dock-brick rating as the host-delivery figure.
- Use the original supported charger if the dock cannot meet the exact configuration's requirement.
Still unknown: The Options Compatibility Matrix does not establish every monitor mode, DSC path, high-refresh result or exact charging level for each dock. Country configuration, dock revision, cable set, BIOS and operating-system state remain relevant.

Device-specific limits
Lenovo lists 5 dock configurations for machine type 21X0/21X1. Match the type code before using these results.
Before choosing a dock
- Match the entire device name, including processor, generation and chassis variant.
- Record your screen models, inputs and intended resolutions and refresh rates.
- Confirm those screens work together through the proposed dock outputs.
- Check the supplied power adapter, laptop charging requirement and software permission.
