Identify the complete Mac
Open About This Mac and copy the chip name and model. “MacBook Pro” is the computer family; “M3 Pro” is a chip. Choose the 14-inch or 16-inch entry in the Apple directory before comparing dock power.
Compare native screen ceilings

A four-screen Mac does not make every dock four-screen
A dock’s controller and output arrangement can limit the connection below the Mac’s overall ceiling. For example, the TS4 shortlist describes at most two native display paths; do not turn a Max chip’s four-screen specification into a promise that four independent screens work through that one dock. Account for the built-in screen and charger
Base M3 closed-lid use changes what is available. Confirm Apple’s software, external input device and power requirements. A dock’s quoted charging ceiling is also separate from whether it meets a larger MacBook’s charging or fast-charging requirement. Keep the supported Apple charger as an option when the desk needs more power.
Use software displays deliberately
DisplayLink is an additional software-driven route with installation, permission and workload limits. It does not rewrite Apple’s native hardware specification. Keep it separate from a native Thunderbolt choice, especially on a managed Mac or when protected video is important.
