Which existing models have supporting evidence?
The device directory now connects the exact catalog models covered by HP’s named groups to this dock. Special suffixes and later generations do not inherit a match. The manufacturer table includes these groups:

A useful separate deployment check
Michigan reports two-monitor use with EliteBook 840 G5, 850 G5, 840 G6 and 850 G6. Its definition includes charging and peripherals, but it does not identify the screens’ resolutions. Check the actual sockets before ordering cables

The laptop uses the dock’s intended host cable. A generic charging lead may not provide the video link. For a second-hand dock, compare the dock label, host cable and matching power adapter before judging the price.
Power and recovery
- Power the G2 with the correct 120 W supply; its published host ceiling is up to 100 W.
- Connect one screen first and select the exact input on that monitor.
- Add the other screen after the first works. Record both modes and compare the host-specific table if one drops resolution.
- Check supported Windows and dock firmware updates through HP. Ask IT about Thunderbolt approval and required network-management features.
- Run an ordinary work session and sleep/wake cycle with the laptop charger available. A stable desktop at idle does not prove charging under load.
Changing to the 230 W or combo-cable version changes the hardware and charging question. Do not treat its power rating as an upgrade that any USB-C laptop can consume.
