Start with the whole name

Read “ProBook 440 G7,” not just “HP ProBook.” Search that complete name in the HP directory. A shared chassis style does not identify the video protocol or charging behavior.

USB-C is a shape; the video capability is separate

Check the specification for DisplayPort over USB-C and power delivery. If the port only transfers data, an ordinary native-video dock cannot create a video signal. If video is supported, the remaining question is how many screens and which combined modes that host can drive. The G5 display table explains why two 4K screens require extra conditions.

If the dock charges but the monitor stays dark

  1. Confirm the attached cable is in the laptop’s documented video-capable USB-C port.
  2. Use a rear HDMI or DisplayPort output on the G5, not its front accessory USB-C port.
  3. Select that exact input using the monitor’s controls. Test one monitor with a known working cable.
  4. If one monitor works, add the next at Full HD and compare the combined mode requirements.
  5. If none works, record the full laptop SKU, BIOS version and dock firmware for HP or your IT team. Do not assume a replacement dock fixes a data-only host port.
