Applies to: Anker 575 USB-C Docking Station, model A8392. Other Anker numbered docks use different display technologies.

Separate physical outputs from independent desktops

A8392 has two HDMI connectors and DisplayPort, but Anker’s macOS notes specify mirrored content. Its Windows multi-display figures depend on the host. The manufacturer’s A8392 support information appears on both its regular and refurbished product pages; the latter has the explicit Mac note. For a shared desk, write the required result for each computer separately. Three visible screens showing repeated content do not satisfy a requirement for three different application windows.

Check the host and power requirements

ItemWhy it matters
DisplayPort Alt Mode on the laptop USB-C portRequired for the native video route.
Laptop USB-C charging supportRequired if the dock is expected to charge it.
85 W host-power specificationCompare with the laptop’s actual charging needs.
Correct upstream cableA charge-only replacement is not equivalent to the supplied host cable.

Do not confuse the dock’s own adapter rating with the host-delivery figure. A separate laptop charger remains a useful comparison when investigating battery drain.

Test a desk you already own

  1. Connect one monitor first and confirm video through the dock.
  2. Add a second monitor, then inspect whether the operating system exposes independent displays.
  3. On Windows, choose an extended arrangement and start with modest supported modes.
  4. On macOS, compare the observed behavior with Anker’s mirroring limitation before changing cables.
  5. Check charging, webcam use and wake separately once the display arrangement is understood.

When changing hardware is justified

If independent Mac desktops are essential and the current output architecture cannot provide them, a settings tweak is insufficient. Compare a supported Thunderbolt arrangement or an approved software-display dock, including the Mac’s own limits.

If the A8392 already meets a Windows-only desk’s requirements, there is no reason to replace it simply because a different technology has a larger number in its name. Choose against your written display, charging and software requirements.
