Which dock options should you consider?
For Dell Pro Max 16 MC16250, choose WD25Z/SD25 for a supported 130 W USB-C desk, or WD25TB4/SD25TB4 when dock-side Thunderbolt connectivity matters. WD25TB5/SD25TB5 is also exact-listed, but this Thunderbolt 4 host operates at its own TB4 capability, so the higher dock generation is not automatically a better fit. WD22TB4, WD19/S with the 180 W supply and WD19TB/TBS are documented reuse options. WD19DC/DCS is supported only with one host lead: Dell warns that connecting both can cause unexpected behavior, so do not claim 210 W dual-cable delivery. Do not substitute WD25, WD19/S 130 W, UD22 or HD22Q; their exact matrix cells are negative. The host supports three external displays with its panel on or four with it off, but that is a host ceiling rather than a one-dock resolution guarantee.
WD25Z/SD25 or WD25TB4/SD25TB4
Dell's current matrix exact-lists both groups and documents up to 130 W to supported Dell hosts; choose TB4 when downstream Thunderbolt matters.
Check first: Match the exact dock and supply, then verify the installed 64 Wh or 96 Wh battery and desired display table. A 96 Wh ExpressCharge configuration requires 130 W.
WD25TB5/SD25TB5
This current family is exact-listed and can be considered for a new managed or forward-looking desk.
Check first: The notebook ports are Thunderbolt 4, so the connection runs at host TB4 capability. Do not buy it solely for a TB5 label or assume every dock display maximum.
WD22TB4, WD19/S 180 W or WD19TB/TBS — supported reuse
Dell's previous-model matrix marks these as supported for MC16250.
Check first: Use the matching supply and supplied single host cable. WD19DC/DCS is separate cautious reuse and must use only one of its two leads.
Connect displays and power
- Exact model
- Match Dell Pro Max 16 MC16250, not AMD MC16255 or another Pro Max chassis, and use Dell's June 2026 English compatibility matrix.
- Host cable
- Power the exact dock first, then attach its supplied host cable directly to either notebook Thunderbolt 4 port without an extension or intermediate hub.
- WD19DC/DCS exception
- Connect only one of its two host leads. Dell warns that using both may cause unwanted behavior; this is not the workstation dual-cable power mode.
- Display ceiling
- Integrated and discrete GPU configurations both permit three external displays with the internal panel active or four with it off. Add displays within the selected dock's own table.
- Power
- Dell documents 100 W or 130 W USB-C adapter configurations. ExpressCharge needs 100 W for the 64 Wh battery and 130 W for the 96 Wh battery with BIOS ExpressCharge enabled.
- Unsupported groups
- WD25, WD19/S with 130 W supply, UD22 and HD22Q remain not supported in the exact row; adding separate laptop power does not reverse a negative compatibility cell.
First recovery steps by symptom
Nothing on the dock works
- Verify the exact dock supply and dock power indicator, then disconnect all peripherals.
- Reseat the supplied host cable directly in either notebook Thunderbolt 4 port.
- Try the other port and prove one USB device before reconnecting displays.
USB works but a display is blank
- Reduce to one known-good display, select its input and use a direct DisplayPort or HDMI cable.
- Use Windows 11 Display Detect and test another documented dock output.
- Update MC16250 BIOS/graphics components and exact dock firmware before adding screens one at a time.
A slow-charge warning appears
- Identify the installed 64 Wh or 96 Wh battery and complete dock power package.
- Check BIOS adapter detection and remove extensions or high-draw accessories.
- Compare with the original Dell 100 W or 130 W charger; direct success isolates power but does not make an unsupported dock compatible.
WD19DC/DCS behaves unpredictably
- Disconnect both host leads and dock power.
- Restore dock AC, then attach only one host lead directly to one Thunderbolt 4 port.
- Update dock firmware and retest one peripheral plus one display before rebuilding the desk.
The fourth display is unavailable
- Confirm the notebook internal panel is off because four external displays require that host state.
- Reduce to ordinary modes and add external screens one at a time within the exact dock table.
- If three work and the fourth fails, treat dock bandwidth, DSC, cable and monitor modes as unresolved rather than exceeding the host-wide ceiling.
Still unknown: The installed battery, processor/GPU, exact dock SKU and supply, negotiated power, dock firmware, DSC state, selected dock's exact simultaneous resolution/refresh table, monitor EDIDs, cables/adapters, HDR/color depth, Windows configuration, Linux display behavior, sleep/wake stability, sustained-workload charging and physical reliability remain unknown. Dell's matrix and host display ceiling are manufacturer documentation, not a Connect Your Dock hardware test.
