Which dock options should you consider?
For Dell Precision 7680, use WD19DC or WD19DCS with both captive USB-C plugs in the two left Thunderbolt 4 ports. It is the only dock family Dell marks supported in the current exact row. Every current WD25 family and every other listed previous family is marked No. Dell documents a single-cable WD22/WD19 workaround with the original barrel adapter, but calls that arrangement unsupported, so it is not an equivalent recommendation. The computer ships with a 180 W or 240 W barrel adapter; WD19DC/DCS provides up to 210 W to a supported Dell host. That fits the documented supported pairing but does not prove full 240 W-equivalent performance under sustained load, so keep the original 240 W adapter available for comparison on that configuration.
WD19DC / WD19DCS
This is the only dock family with a positive cell in Dell's live June 2026 exact Precision 7680 row.
Check first: Power it with its 240 W-or-greater Dell adapter and seat both captive host connectors in the two left Thunderbolt 4 ports. Do not use the right non-Thunderbolt USB-C port for the dock.
WD25 families — not supported
Dell marks WD25, WD25Z/SD25, WD25TB4/SD25TB4 and WD25TB5/SD25TB5 No in the current exact row.
Check first: Do not rely on a stale 2025 matrix or the presence of Thunderbolt ports. The June 2026 live guide supersedes those older positive-looking rows.
Other WD19/WD22 docks — unsupported workaround only
Dell marks WD22TB4, WD19/S and WD19TB/TBS No, while a separate power article describes a limited single-cable workaround with the original host charger.
Check first: Treat the workaround as reuse-only and unsupported. UD22 and HD22Q are also exact negatives. Choose WD19DC/DCS for the supported path.
Connect displays and power
- Computer cable
- Connect both WD19DC/DCS host plugs to the two left Thunderbolt 4 ports. The right USB-C port is not Thunderbolt and Dell says it does not accept dock or AC-adapter power.
- Dock power
- Use the WD19DC/DCS adapter rated at least 240 W. The system itself has either a 180 W or 240 W 7.4 mm barrel-adapter configuration.
- Displays
- Dock HDMI and the multifunction DisplayPort USB-C output cannot drive monitors simultaneously. Use DP + DP + either HDMI or multifunction DisplayPort, not both.
- Documented display branches
- Dell's March 2023 guide lists three 2560×1440-at-60-Hz screens in Hybrid mode, and in Discrete mode either three 4K60 screens or one 8K60 dual-DisplayPort path. These are manufacturer topology tables, not our tested results.
- 240 W configuration
- The dock's up-to-210 W ceiling does not establish the same sustained-load behavior as the original 240 W barrel adapter. Compare with direct barrel power if warnings or throttling appear.
First recovery steps by symptom
The dock is not detected or does not charge
- Confirm both host connectors are in the two left Thunderbolt 4 ports and that the dock uses a 240 W-or-greater Dell adapter.
- If the battery is below 10%, disconnect the dock and charge first with the original barrel adapter, then reconnect.
- Power-cycle the dock and test one USB device before reconnecting the display set.
A single-cable WD22/WD19 setup will not charge
- Disconnect the single-cable dock, connect the workstation's original barrel adapter and then reconnect the dock.
- Confirm charging and peripherals separately.
- Remember that Dell labels this configuration unsupported; replace it with WD19DC/DCS when a supported dock path is required.
External displays and Ethernet are intermittently absent
- Check the exact workstation BIOS version; Dell documents this symptom after the unpowered host is later started through WD19DC/DCS.
- Update Precision 7680 BIOS to 1.12.1 or later as Dell directs for this scenario.
- Power-cycle the dock and retest a single display and Ethernet before restoring other peripherals.
A display route is blank or limited
- Make sure dock HDMI and multifunction DisplayPort are not both occupied, then reduce to one known-good display and mode-rated cable.
- Confirm the BIOS graphics mode and compare the requested topology with Dell's March 2023 table.
- For RTX 2000 Ada or 3500 Ada right-side display loss with a left-port dock, enable Hybrid Graphics in BIOS, save and restart.
Still unknown: Dell's documents leave the 240 W sustained-load equivalence and one ExpressCharge battery/adapter note internally inconsistent. The exact Service Tag configuration, GPU and BIOS graphics mode, internal-panel state, monitor EDIDs, DSC/HDR use, cables, mixed refresh rates, current BIOS and dock firmware, Linux parity, thermal/performance behavior and field reliability remain unknown. The March 2023 display table and June 2026 compatibility row are manufacturer evidence, not our hardware test.
