Applies to: MacBook Neo with A18 Pro. No Thunderbolt support is assumed from the USB-C connector.
The two ports are not equivalent
Apple lists charging and DisplayPort on the USB 3 port. The USB 2 port lists charging and low-speed data, without native video. If charging works but the screen is dark, identifying the port is an essential first check. Apple: MacBook Neo ports and external-display limit
One screen can be straightforward
- Locate the USB 3 video-capable port using Apple’s port reference.
- Connect a suitable USB-C video cable or directional adapter to the screen.
- Select the wired input and confirm an ordinary mode up to 4K60.
- Check any shared charging arrangement independently.
A charge-only cable will not supply video. A Thunderbolt-only accessory also cannot acquire host support from connector shape.
Two or three screens change the requirements

Plugable reports passing Neo tests for these models. That is manufacturer-reported evidence, not our physical testing. Use the USB 3 host port, powered dock and supported software. Decide before buying a software route
Check permission to install DisplayLink Manager and grant its required Mac permission. Protected playback and demanding graphics need separate consideration. If software installation is prohibited, the native one-screen limit remains the useful starting point. Read the software-display limitations.
