Applies to: SFG14-73, SFG16-72, SFG14-74, SFG16-73 and AV16-71P only. These wiring examples describe ports to check; they do not establish exact combined modes for every regional SKU.
A two-screen TS4 cable arrangement to check
- TS4 DisplayPort outputDisplayPort cable↓Screen 1 · DisplayPort input
- TS4 downstream ThunderboltUSB-C video-to-HDMI adapter + HDMI cable↓Screen 2 · HDMI input
The TS4 has no built-in HDMI socket. For two HDMI monitors, the DisplayPort route also needs a correctly directed DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter. The required adapter rating follows the requested mode. Do not use an ordinary TS4 USB-C data socket as the second video route. CalDigit: TS4 specifications and host requirements
If both monitors have HDMI
The TBT4-UDZ provides built-in HDMI outputs. A simple starting arrangement uses one screen from each numbered output group. Connect the computer to the dock’s host Thunderbolt port; its data-only USB-C port is not a display output. Compare this route with the cost and complexity of TS4 adapters. Check the generation and power
Acer’s 2024 announcement identifies SFG14-73 and SFG16-72. Its 2025 announcement identifies SFG14-74, SFG16-73 and AV16-71P. All five reviewed families have two Thunderbolt 4 ports; charging requirements still need the regional SKU. The reviewed SFG14-73-98HU lists a 100 W supply. A TS4’s 98 W ceiling does not prove that it replaces that supply for every workload. Keep the existing charger while checking battery behavior. Acer: SFG14-73-98HU / NX.KSGEK.00S specifications
When the second monitor fails
- Disconnect the second screen and confirm the first works at its intended mode.
- Test the second screen alone using its intended dock output and selected monitor input.
- Reconnect both and select extended desktops in Windows. Check the offered mode of each while both remain connected.
- If each works alone but not together, record both resolutions and refresh rates. Confirm the exact host/dock combination rather than assuming the dock’s headline maximum applies.
- Check charging and sleep/wake separately. Keep the laptop’s model code, dock firmware and adapter models with your results.
